The most basic qualification is that your site must run on a platform that allows third-party advertising and supports ads.txt.</p><h3><em>What is third-party advertising?</em></h3><p class="">Third party advertising is any advertising that you yourself did not directly place on your site, or hasn’t been provided to you by your platform itself. You are going to a third party (like SHE Media) to monetize your site.</p><h3><em>How do I know if my platform allows third-party advertising?</em></h3><p class="">In the agreement you signed with your platform, it will say whether or not you’re allowed to monetize your site through third party advertising. </p><p class="">Two examples of plans that do not allow third-party advertising are Squarespace’s personal plan and the free plan on Wordpress.com. Wordpress.com will let you monetize your site if you have a business level plan (with a domain) with them - but any account lower than that can only be monetized through their WordAds network.</p><p class="">Some platforms will tell you they offer Google AdSense integration - if you see that, then you can use third party ads. Not all of these platforms are eligible for the SHE Media Collective because we require support for ads.txt as well.</p><p class="">If you have a custom build, you will need to consult with your platform’s developer to make sure that it can run JavaScript ads. </p><h3><em>What is ads.txt?</em></h3><p class="">Ads.txt <a href="https://iabtechlab.com/ads-txt-about/" target="_blank">is a security protocol put out by the IAB</a> (<strong><em>Interactive Advertising Bureau) </em></strong>in order to make sure that ad providers and publishers have some sense of security that the ads running on sites are authorized to be there - think of it as a handshake between your site and a provider. It’s a text file that is uploaded to the root directory of your site - or injected there to create a virtual file. This file lists all the ad providers that your network states that it uses, using specific codes. When a page loads, the ad providers quickly check to see that you have the correct lines and then delivers an ad. And your ad network personally vets each and every ad provider, so if it’s included in the list, you know that it’s been checked and has reputable inventory.</p><p class="">As of June 2022, platforms like GoDaddy’s SiteBuilder and Weebly are not eligible for the SHE Media Collective, as they do not support ads.txt.  (Note: Sites that are hosted on GoDaddy and built using WordPress.org are fine - but if you use Site Builder, their Drag and Drop design platform - there is no support for any type of advertising other than AdSense.)</p><p class="">If you are on these platforms and want to fully monetize your site, please contact their support desk and let them know that you want them to add support for ads.txt.  Even if they allow a plugin connection for AdSense, please let them know that you would like to use premium ad networks, which require more access.</p><h3><em>What platforms support ads.txt?</em></h3><p class="">1. WordPress.org sites support ads.txt, though they require for you to pay for hosting through a company. Several companies out there offer WordPress hosting, and will help make it easy for you to set up a site with them.</p><p class="">2. Blogger supports ads.txt files.</p><p class="">3. Any Squarespace account higher than their current Personal plan can support ads.txt with our network (though supported directly by them. It requires a workaround - so we do recommend that you still reach out to ask Squarespace to add ads.txt support).</p><p class="">4. Any custom platform that can allow you to upload a file to the site’s root directory can support ads.txt.</p><h3><em>What else should I know about platforms?</em></h3><p class="">Not all platforms and themes are the best for monetization.  For example, while SHE Media can monetize sites with Wix that are in an appropriate plan that gives them access to insert code and create ads.txt files - Wix uses a What You See is What You Get (WYSIWYG / drag and drop) builder, it can make it very difficult for our ads to render on the page.  Same for some sites built in WordPress, if you’ve used a drag and drop theme builder like Elementor or Divi.  </p><p class="">What makes it difficult?  Traditional platforms (like Wordpress.org) use layouts with plainly named elements, usually with flexible elements to allow for different sizes of pages, or rotating a screen..  Some drag and drop builders render elements on the page as absolute, meaning we can’t inject any code because those elements are fixed in place. Or, the builders give elements names that don’t carry from page to page - so we can’t create rules for our injections to work.  (All layouts are essentially a series of boxes, that fit within each other. They usually have carefully named elements so that you know what’s the content well, what’s the sidebar.   <p class="">In another tab/window, log into your Blogger Dashboard on blogger.com. Select the blog you want to set up an Ads.txt file on. From the left, select <strong>Settings</strong> and then <strong>Search Preferences</strong>. At the bottom of the page, under <strong>Monetization</strong> – find <strong>Custom Ads.txt and click edit</strong>. Then Yes. Paste in the lines from the Ads.txt file you downloaded and click save.</p><p class="">You will have to check this from time to time and update these fields manually. We update our ads.txt regularly , and there is no way at the moment to automatically sync between our Ads.txt file and Blogger.</p><p class="">Why do we update our ads.txt file regularly?  Good question!  SHE Media works with a large number of ad providers.  We add new providers, and remove under performing providers to help keep your ads loading quickly, and bringing you the best inventory possible.</p><p class="">Note: if you have a custom domain, you’ll need to reach out to our team so we can give you the instructions. Instead of setting up an ads.txt file in your Blogger platform, you’ll have to contact your domain host.</p><p class="">Questions? We’re happy to help! (Note, paste the link with the Ads.txt file where the Xs are – it’ll look something like http://ads.blogherads.com/bh/0/00/00/0000/ads.txt – or it might be even shorter if you’ve been with the Partner Network for some time) Click the Save button. That means our publishers will receive their SHE Media earnings faster than ever before.&nbsp;&nbsp;All publishers who qualify for NET 35 will receive an email alerting them of the change. If you qualify, there is nothing you need to do we’ve already begun to switch your payments to Net 35.</p><p class="">We understand the importance of cash flow and how it directly impacts a publisher's ability to grow. In a market where advertisers pay publishers with Net 90 payment terms or longer, we are the first and only partner to accelerate payments as quickly as Net 35.&nbsp;</p><p class="">We do the work of waiting and collecting from the advertisers while you get to reinvest your earnings quicker to help you grow and manage your cash flow.&nbsp; In 2020 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, SHE Media implemented a payment relief structure that paid publishers <a href="https://www.shemedia.com/blog/announcing-early-payments-for-she-media-publishers"><span>10 days early </span></a>so they could continue to operate in confidence. Now we are upgrading qualified publishers to Net 35 as we remain committed to helping you thrive in a market that is only making it harder for small publishers to win.</p><p data-rte-preserve-empty="true" class=""></p><h4><em>Please read the following carefully to understand the timeline and details of our rollout of the new payment structure:</em></h4><p class="">Publishers will now be paid by the 5th of the following month. This will begin with your March 2023 payment. Your March earnings will get to you by May 5th. The awards event also featured Carol Cone, CEO and Founder of Carol Cone ON PURPOSE, and Kathleen Dunlop, Global Brand VP at Vaseline.&nbsp; </p><p class=""><strong>SHE Media was named a Winner in the DEI Events category for its </strong><a href="https://www.blogher.com/sf/inclusive-future-pmi/"><span><strong>BlogHer Inclusive Future event series</strong></span></a><strong> sponsored by Philip Morris International.</strong></p><p class="">Sponsored by Philip Morris International and using its BlogHer community, SHE Media’s Inclusive Future sought to tackle important questions about building a future of work for everyone, including figuring out how best to measure inclusivity.&nbsp; Rolled out from July to December 2021, the program took on a range of diversity, equity and inclusion topics like women in STEM, disinformation, corporate social responsibility (CSR) and mental health, as well as that point of measuring inclusivity. The dedicated Content Hub is home to 20 unique editorial articles, four virtual events, content syndication tools and more.</p><p class="">To date, the series resulted in 1,000 virtual event registrants, of whom 600 attended, with an average time spent per attendee of more than 45 minutes. It was the heat of the Black Lives Matter movement that prompted the launch of Meaningful Marketplaces, designed to pave an accessible and intentional path to match promised dollars with historically underserved communities.</p><p class="">SHE Media and <a href="https://www.blogher.com" target="_blank">BlogHer</a> have always prioritized diversity and inclusion among community members, and today, our mission feels more important than ever. As with <a href="https://www.magnite.com/blog/how-she-medias-meaningful-marketplaces-aims-to-support-underrepresented-publishers/" target="_blank">any acknowledgment</a> we receive, like this award, we direct the attention back to our SHE Media publishing partners.</p><p class="">Meaningful Marketplaces are curated publisher communities from our over 2,000+ publisher partners that allow advertisers to support Black, Latin, AAPI and LGBTQAI+ Owned media businesses. </p><p class="">Several months ago, we surveyed our <a href="https://www.blogher.com/community/did-brands-deliver-on-their-commitment-to-support-black-owned-media-25250/" target="_blank">Meaningful Marketplace publishers</a>, to hear how they feel <a href="https://adage.com/article/ad-age-events/will-brands-make-good-commitments-black-owned-media/2353776" target="_blank">ad spending has changed</a> since the public commitments of many large-scale brands and agencies to turn their dollars into deals for Black-owned businesses. And so far, despite these promises, over 73% of survey respondents say they have not experienced an increase in direct outreach from advertisers in recent months. This prompted our series of Accountable Advertising campaigns this year, reaching leadership at top agencies and advertisers and creating content with ad industry trades, to reveal the need for investment to follow.</p><p class="">Further aligning with this goal, Meaningful Marketplaces provides a pipeline of speakers and content creators for our BlogHer event series that reach global audiences of influencers and entrepreneurs, while continuing to provide educational and networking opportunities. Across all of our virtual conferences in 2021, 60% of speakers were women of color, and we consistently promote a diverse slate of partners in our Sponsored Content and Influencer programs.&nbsp;</p><p class="">As we look to 2022, we anticipate positive change in the industry and commit fully to supporting DE&amp;I initiatives.</p>

While we, too, can only project and make educated guesses on what the full impact will be on the advertising industry, we are in the unique position to be able to help offset the overall trends by successfully adapting our direct sales efforts and providing direct campaigns and PMP revenue to our partners.  </p><p class="">The IAB <a href="https://www.iab.com/insights/coronavirus-ad-spend-impact-buy-side/" target="_blank">released a summary of findings</a> after talking to a group of buy-side stakeholders on what their plans are for changes to spend and strategies stemming from the pandemic. We encourage you to read the full report, but have listed some of the more pertinent data points for you here. </p><h3>Where We Are Now</h3><ul data-rte-list="default"><li><p class="">Digital ad spend is down across the industry by about 33% </p></li><li><p class="">More than a third of advertisers are changing their marketing tactics entirely</p></li><li><p class="">Advertisers are being much more strict on audience/brand safety targeting and their requirements </p></li><li><p class="">While most adjustments to advertising budgets have already been made for the first half of 2020, the majority of second half budgets have yet to be determined </p></li><li><p class="">Live Entertainment, Travel, Food, Auto, and Technology based advertisers make up the majority of missing ad spend </p></li></ul><h3>Some Positives</h3><ul data-rte-list="default"><li><p class="">Digital spend is not only expected to take less of a hit than traditional spend, but is also expected to rebound faster</p></li><li><p class="">The majority of spend impact is expected to be in Q1 and Q2 2020, with a more modest impact in Q3 and Q4</p></li></ul><h3>What You Can Do To Minimize the Impact</h3><p class="">1. Re-evaluate the ad categories you are blocking</p><ul data-rte-list="default"><li><p class="">You may have put category blocks in place early in your on-boarding. Consider allowing the additional demand to help increase competition for your site, even if just for the short term</p></li></ul><p class="">2. Add video</p><ul data-rte-list="default"><li><p class="">Video advertising remains strong. In order to increase your video inventory – and even if you don’t have original video content, don’t hesitate to have us activate our outstream unit.</p></li></ul><p class="">3. Stay away from Corona related key words in your content</p><ul data-rte-list="default"><li><p class="">Advertisers are either blocking their ads from showing up on corona related content entirely or paying much less for those  placements. While it may drive traffic, it wont be of high revenue value.</p></li></ul><p class="">4. Consider increasing your available ad inventory</p><ul data-rte-list="default"><li><p class="">Additional content or just ad slots will increase overall ad availability and help steady the decline in revenue. We’ve created a list of actions you can take right now to <a href="https://www.blogher.com/news/how-ux-optimization-can-increase-rpm" target="_blank">drive up your RPM</a>. </p></li></ul><h3>What We Are Doing</h3><p class="">1. We are working with them daily to gain insights and tools/tactics to help increase ad buying specifically on SHE Media.</p></li></ul><p class="">2. Working with brands directly</p><ul data-rte-list="default"><li><p class="">Our sales team is in continued communication with the brands themselves gaining valuable knowledge about how they are planning to adjust their ad spend.  We use this information to get ahead of trends before they start.</p></li></ul><p class="">3. Safeguarding your business</p><ul data-rte-list="default"><li><p class="">We are focused on constantly evaluating the partners we work with to ensure their financial stability throughout this crisis.
