This month, instead of our usual webinars, we invited our publishers for a special in-person event at the SHE Media offices in New York City for the Collective Chats learning and connection series.

Attendees got the chance to meet our SHE Media team, connect with other publishers, and learn and explore the advantages of being a SHE Media partner. CEO Samantha Skey was also present, engaging with members and delivering the closing remarks Those not living in New York or surrounding areas were able to join in on the conversation online. We wrapped up the afternoon with lively conversations and refreshments on our rooftop patio!

We had a fantastic time hosting our publishers and creators at the SHE Media New York offices! It was so inspiring to hear about their creative projects and to witness the brilliance and uniqueness of our members firsthand. We’re beyond grateful to have such a dynamic group of creators as we continue to expand our purpose, profit, and partnerships!

For the second year in a row, we hosted the SHE Media Co-Lab Whole Life Health. A 3-day event packed with educational and enlightening conversations on women’s health with an impressive list of speakers and panelists such as Katie Couric, Brooke Shields, Kara Swisher, Sophia Bush, and more!

In addition to the Whole Life Health SHE Media Co-Lab, we hosted an exclusive and intimate luncheon at the Proper Hotel in Austin Texas, for SHE Media Collective members who attended SXSW or lived in Austin and surrounding areas. 

Speaking at the  SHE Media Collective Publisher luncheon and Panel were experts from industry-leading publications: Paul Croughton, editor-in-chief of Robb Report, Cristina Velocci, chief content officer at SHE Media, and Galina Espinoza editor-in-chief of Flow. They shared their insights on publishing and the state of the industry and took questions from publishers. Moderating the panel was SHE Media Collective’s engagement lead, Jiji Ugboma.

We were excited to host our publishers. We ensured they got the most out of their SXSW experience with scheduled meetings with SHE Media team members and stakeholders, lunch meetings, and front-row seats to all SHE Media SXSW panels and activities like morning yoga. They also got invited to other brand events like the PMC Juliet House happy hour, WWD, Beauty Inc., FN The Wear House, and more. We wrapped up the 3 days of activities with the Acast x SHE Media happy hour!

This Member Guide covers our network policies and benefits. If you have questions or just want to connect with us, please don’t hesitate to contact us at support@shemedia.com.

When you enter into a contract with us, your content remains your content, and your blog remains your blog. Below is a plain-English version of the obligations we each agree to when we become partners.

This member guide has been updated to reflect some updates to standard terms as of March 17, 2023.

As your partner, SHE Media will:

• Deliver display advertising via our exclusive ad wrapper, which is fast, fully asynchronous, and set up to deliver our high-CPM direct-sold campaigns as well as top inventory from over a dozen of the best programmatic exchanges.

• Provide you with final approval of your ad placement. We may request changes to meet viewability performance or advertiser expectations.

• Pay you 75% of the gross revenue from all open-marketplace programmatic campaigns your site serves, and up to 75% of the gross revenue from all direct-sold and private marketplace campaigns.

• Set up native (in-content) ads for your site. Native ads travel from desktop to tablet to mobile and adapt to all screen sizes.

• Help you optimize for mobile. We can help publishers on any platform with ad optimization.

• Work with you to improve your viewability ratings.

• Provide revenue reports that include ad volume, net revenue, viewability scores, top content, traffic sources and more. Reports are generally complete 35 days after the close of the month, and it’s important to note that there is a 48 hour reporting delay.

• Send your ad revenue to you 35 days after the close of the month it was earned (beginning with revenue earned in March 2023 - revenue earned in January and February of 2023 will be paid on 60 days after the close of the month it was earned), as long as the balance is $20 or more. If it isn’t, we will roll it forward until it reaches $20.

  • For example, January 2023 revenue is paid at the end of March. Your March revenue will be paid on May 5th. If you did not earn $20 in that month, your payment will be rolled to the next month.

• We send U.S. residents a 1099 if payments total $600 or more during a calendar year. U.S.-based publishers (or those with banks in the U.S.) are paid via ACH (direct deposit). All members outside of the United States are paid by PayPal.

• Allow you to opt in to be considered for sponsored content and programs. We select bloggers based on sponsor criteria and each program’s goals. We cannot guarantee that every interested blogger will be matched with a sponsored program. Each campaign is individually negotiated with you. Bloggers outside the USA may not be eligible for the majority of traditional review programs, due to shipping times, product availability, and legal issues

As our partner, you will:

• Display the ad units as specified in the contract. On desktop, this includes at least 3 ads units – which may be a combination of display ads and native ads. Mobile needs to have at least two placements. You’ll likely want additional ad units, and we have several to choose from. We will provide you with additional information when you’re ready to select and install your ad units.

• Install the ad tags exactly as provided. They cannot be passed through third-party or other ad serving code.

• Assign your site to us in comScore. Your traffic is still your own, and your own analytics tracker will capture all your data, this just allows us to represent you across the digital marketplace and provide you with additional reporting.

• Follow our Editorial Guidelines, and understand that we may update them from time to time. We’ll always let you know directly if we make changes.

• Maintain your high standard of content, and keep your content fresh by publishing on a regular schedule, preferably at least once a week.

• Ensure that your site meets all the requirements needed for privacy laws like GDPR and CCPA in order to make sure that you can be monetized properly - including maintaining an up to date privacy policy, filling out the IAB Limited Service Provider Agreement, and having a GDPR TCF V2 compliant CMP (SHE Media offers one with its ad code - if you have your own, it must be TCF V2 compliant)

• Allow us to promote your blog through sites owned by SHE Media and/or Penske Media Corporation (our parent company), through our social media channels and in our newsletters.

• Refrain from re-publishing a significant quantity of your posts on any other blog, or creating a duplicate of your site. Our advertisers want to sponsor your excellent original content. : )

• Clearly label and disclose editorial content that has been commissioned and paid for by a third party, and/or contains paid advertising links. Please review the FTC disclosure guide. Our team is here to answer any questions you may have about this policy!

• Pay your own taxes on the income you receive from us. (We’ll provide a 1099 to sites who are paid $600 or more in a calendar year.)

• Ensure that your site is in good standing with Google’s ad services, and that you have not been previously limited/blacklisted from their ad services.

• Refrain from installing ad tags from other networks. If you have a question about affiliate links, or other sorts of non-network ads, please let us know. Members with an older, non-exclusive contract (from July 2016 or earlier) may install ads from some other providers, so long as those providers aren’t asking for exclusivity and/or a comScore Traffic Assignment Letter. Please contact us to verify if you may use ads from other sources anywhere on the site, as there may be contract conflicts or technical challenges that could affect your revenue.

• Let us know ASAP if you’ve made any changes to your site – from design, platform moves, URL changes and rebranding. We can help make sure your ads remain current and let you know how these changes can affect your revenue.

• Let us know ASAP if something is broken and we’ll get right on it. If we ask you to fix something, please do your best to fix it as soon as possible.

Lastly, our standard term is a 1-year contract, and begins on the day you agree to it. It will automatically renew for an additional term every 12 months. If you do not wish to renew, you must send written notice at least 60 days prior to your automatic renewal date. Tell us about the products you will be selling at LA3C. Why should people stop to shop at your booth?

I will be selling a mixture of various jewelry pieces. Rings, Hoops earrings, Bead Woven Fringe Earrings, Necklaces, Bracelets, and String Bracelets. All my jewelry pieces are spiritually rich, tell a story, give meaning, and/or offer different spiritual energies to my buyers. I incorporate various gemstones/crystals, and glass beads, and all jewelry is made with high-quality 14KT Gold Filled Metals. I will also be debuting my permanent jewelry services to interested customers. I will be offering permanent bracelets made from 14KT Gold Filled Metals. Stop by and say hi :)

The major inspiration for my business comes from my grandparents who were huge entrepreneurs when they migrated to this country from Mexico. They hustled their way to success. It’s in my bloodline to be an entrepreneur as well. The name of my business was influenced by my astrological sign and the idea of having to live between two worlds of being Mexican- American, hence the mermaid. Never quite fitting in anywhere and instead create a free/ welcoming space of my own. La Sirena Bead Co. is my whole heart and continues to grow with me every single day.

Being an MMP LA3C vendor really has been such a rewarding experience. I am so grateful to the kind soul (Kailee!!) who pitched my name to SHE Media! When I got the news I honestly cried of excitement. I have been working for an opportunity like this to connect with more people and put my name out there. It gives testament to the entrepreneurial gene in my bloodline and the hard work that we put in to start seeing our manifestations come to fruition. I know my ancestors are proud of the work I’ve put in this little business of mine. I am proud of myself as well. This experience means the world to me and I am so excited to connect with people at the festival. This was something I put on my vision board for 2022, to be apart of a major marketplace. Julie Huang - cocodealers

Tell us about the products you will be selling at LA3C. Why should people stop to shop at your booth?

Our signature cocoware home goods and our most recent collaboration with a maker from the Yukon. We've been working with small businesses we've met along the way to combine our passion for sustainability and creativity into bigger and better products. 

We are entering year 3 with pop-ups at some of the best markets in Los Angeles and music festivals in California and Nevada. We're still quite a small team but it's been a great feeling to be able to hire from our own pool of regulars and give back to them for supporting us from the beginning. Whether it is compostable home goods at the market or fresh coconuts at music festivals, I think you’ll definitely see more of us in 2023

What does being an MMP LA3C Vendor mean to you?

I'm definitely grateful that we can showcase our brand at an event dedicated to the creativity and culture of Los Angeles, it's where we built our business and we couldn't have done it without the creativity and culture we are constantly blessed with nearby. For us to be an MMP LA3C vendor is a huge step forward to our mission to make sustainability and healthy living fun and it's empowering to think you guys think we're cool enough to be a part of this. 

It can be difficult for small businesses to share their work and showcase their brand on big platforms. But small businesses are constantly challenged with figuring things out with limited resources and have built incredible resilience as a result. Tell us about the products you will be selling at LA3C. Why should people stop to shop at your booth?

I'll be selling my hand-poured, coconut wax, astrologer-made Zodiac Superlative Candles. In this collection, all 12 signs have a custom fragrance blend based on their personality archetype and include a snarky superlative on the label. Think, "most likely to succeed" but more like "most likely to be okay, but not really"--eh hem, Cancers LOL. I will also be selling Cosmic Body Oils which are perfumed roll-ons for each zodiac sign featuring the same fragrance in the candles. I will have tons of zodiac Merch available: tees and hoodies, manifestation journals, coffee mugs, tumblers, duffel bags, and even an amazing sunset tracksuit!

As an LGBTQIA+ business owner who's built an Astrology business centered around injecting fun into spiritual work, it is such an honor to have been invited to the Meaningful Marketplace. The opportunity to share space, time, and laughter with everyone attending will truly be surreal!

I have 10+ years of buying experience at places like Macy's, RueLaLa, and ban.do. In my last role, I realized firsthand how many great brands were struggling with excess inventory and how dated the traditional off-price retail model has become. I launched offe market as an outlet for brands to liquidate excess inventory while maintaining strong brand value and simultaneously offering discounts on Gen-Z favorite brands like Baggu, Chunks, and others you wouldn't find at traditional off-price retailers.

We’ll have a range of chimes and accompanying lines of handmade jewelry ready for you to adorn yourself for the night out as well as your holiday gift-giving!

There is nothing else like them on the market and an idea I’ve brought to life during quarantine, totally by accident; working with my hands was my way to cope with the anxiety of quarantine and 2020 generally- turns out I’d accidentally created an inventory. I’m very proud of them and totally humbled by their response to them. 

Overall, our products aside, I think (and certainly hope!) genuinely connecting with people has also set us apart. Especially as the maker + curator of these goods, it is a joy to work with and serve each person I meet. I like getting to know all of our customers too!

It means the world! Born and raised in LA I’m a proud Angeleno and I love getting to know the city again as a small business owner. LA3C is an incredible chance to be part of this new annual music festival in my hometown- what a gift! I feel so grateful to be part of something uniquely LA.

Xenia Zayas – Chef Zee Cooks 

I love making people hungry, but most importantly I love inspiring people to cook. My goal is to make everyone (newbie and experienced chefs) feel confident in the kitchen as though they are the chef in their own homes. Cepee Tabibian – She Hit Refresh

She Hit Refresh is a community for women age 30+ who want to break free from a life of routine and finally move abroad.

“My name is Cepee, rhymes with peppy, and I moved from Texas to Spain in 2015 at the age of 35 and haven’t looked back since! My mission is to help other women gain the confidence and clarity they need to move abroad and live the life of their dreams. I do this by creating content and resources for my community–blog, podcast, YouTube, social media, digital book, workshops, online course, annual retreat, meetups–that empower my community to radically change their lives. My community is what drives me to create! I know that the information I provide empowers them to radically change their lives in ways they had only dreamed about. Representation matters. Not only do I want women age 30+ to see that it’s possible to move abroad, I also want to be an example for Latinas–I’m the proud daughter of a Colombian immigrant–who may not have examples of women in their community who are choosing the unconventional path, rejecting the American dream, and preferring to leave the US for a better life abroad.”

Levi Chambers, Founder of Rainbow Media Co

Levi Chambers is the founder of Rainbow Media Co. which is home to gayety.co and notable social accounts @pride, @lgbt, and @lgbtq. He has a decade of experience in LGBTQ+ media which expands across digital, print, and streaming. He is also the founding editor of Pride.com and the host of the Pride Podcast, which regularly welcomes 20,000 listeners per month.

“If I had to pick three words to describe the BlogHer Health conference, I’d pick “smart, fun, and chill”. It was great to connect with colleagues at She Media that we initially met over video conferencing. I always find the biggest takeaways from conferences are the new contacts and keeping up with current contacts. But this time is different. Dr. Cindy Duke on the Black Maternal Health panel really got my attention. The information and statistics she shared regarding how the medical profession is taught to treat black and brown women differently than they treat white women are based on erroneous information. And how this leads to higher mortality rates, less pain management, and many other disparities in care. It moved me. Danica Janae, Founder of By Nica Lina & She’s Out of Town

Danica Janae is the founder of two premium brands By Nica Lina and She’s Out of Town. Through her publishing website By Nica Lina, she educates her audience on self-care and lifestyle topics and equips them with the right inspiration to live their best lives. She is also passionate about mentoring and established She’s Out of Town – a marketing agency focused on helping female content creators grow their brands. 

“The award means a lot to me. It’s motivating and makes me feel seen for everything that I did to get me to where I’m today. It pushes me to do more and achieve more! It makes me excited for what more is there to come. It’s a milestone! I had such a happy experience at BlogHer Health. Being a part of the event was such an honor, and for that, I will forever be grateful for the opportunity. Danica shared how adversities she faced helped shape who she is today and how traveling has been instrumental in finding herself, learning about her heritage in the Philippines, and making brave and bold decisions. She also focused on helping women live their dream lives and get to where they need to be faster than it took her. From being a BlogHer attendee year ago with her mom, she has come full circle to being on stage as a well-deserving award recipient!

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
